Course Benefits
Getting That Interview
Aircraft specific courses are generally taught at airlines to all new aircraft mechanics. As a rule, it's normally a General Familiarization course lasting about 40 hours in duration meeting ATA Spec 104 Level 1 training requirements. Jet Fix Training's General Familiarization courses meet that ATA specification.
A benefit of completing a Gen Fam course is that it can enhance your resume, even if your prospective employer isn't operating that particular aircraft type. It shows that you can successfully complete that level of training and have the ability to learn new aircraft. And completing one of our courses will often suffice as course credit should you hire on with an operator of that same aircraft type.
Military mechanics who leave the service, sometimes experience challenges when applying for civilian mechanic jobs. Prospective employers often incorrectly assume that military aircraft are appreciably different from civilian aircraft. Of course they aren't.
Employers in some cases also assume that military mechanics are very specialized and don't understand all the systems on an aircraft. Even military mechanics with their A&P can struggle getting past the HR group without civilian experience or training.
Having a civilian aircraft Gen Fam on your resume can go a long way towards countering these misconceptions and get your resume looked at by the hiring manager. And one of our online self-study self-paced classes will get you there in just a few weeks!
And perhaps we should discuss one last benefit for those of you in the military. Completing one of our courses can be submitted for your performance evaluations as additional education. And the knowledge you gain would certainly be of some benefit to the service.
